Integrating BSI, Equity, and SSSP

Since middle school Paola wanted to be a microbiologist. She’s had to overcome some big hurdles in her education to get where she is now: English is her second language, and she is the first in her family to go to college. But now between her part-time job, her classes, and caring for her little brothers two days a week, she is beginning to wonder if she can make her dream come true.

You probably know students like Paola, each with their own dreams. They come to our colleges committed to the idea that education is their key to career and life success. Yet what they often find are systems that are confusing, disconnected and often not receptive to their needs, due to long-standing customs and norms.

A piecemeal approach to integrating BSI, Equity, and SSSP won’t result in fundamental change. To truly support our students, we need to use a process to change our culture and structure so we’re supporting all students in the ways they need us to.

The following shows the process to deeply engage stakeholders at all levels to develop and execute evidence-based plans for change. Central to the process is the idea of continuous improvement. Each cycle generates new possibilities, ideas and strategies that help all our students – students like Paola – succeed.
