Disaggregating data allows us to perceive differential impacts among student populations, and is a powerful first step toward closing achievement gaps. However, students have complex lives; their identities don't fit neatly into one box or another. Students wouldn't describe themselves solely by one demographic characteristic; ethnicity, gender, age and program of study are all part of who they are. Deeper analysis of student data through multivariate analysis can provide a way to understand patterns of need and program effect among sub-populations such as men of color, older returning veterans, or Latina women in STEM pathways. The workshop videos below cover data sources, data tools, methods of analysis, and story development. Using your campus data, you can learn to create data-driven stories that reflect the complexity of our student populations and that address the need to monitor students' progress along their academic pathways.
