We are excited to bring you to the only training program of its kind in California, ACCCA's Administration 101. The program will be held at Brandman University in Irvine, and includes deluxe accommodations at the nearby Ayres Hotel (Costa Mesa/Newport Beach.)

The 5-day seminar focuses on the unique “nuts and bolts” and management basics for the unique California community college system. The program provides an overview of the most crucial technical, regulatory and legal aspects of administration as it applies to California’s unique community college system. Case studies and presentations provided by seasoned practitioners and system leaders will help participants apply the rules and regulations in real-world situations.

Please note the policies around our selection process:
- The class size for Admin 101 is a maximum of 72 seats
- All applicants to the Admin 101 program must go through a vetting process and be selected by a designated team of volunteers and staff based on criteria established by the Management Development Commission (MDC)
- Priority registration will be granted to administrators, managers or supervisors who are relatively new to the college or to their administrative role (i.e., within their first 5 years.)
- A maximum of 5 attendees may be accepted into the program per college/district.
- If a seat on the waiting list opens up due to a cancellation in the class, pre-vetted applicants will be chosen from the waiting list with priority granted to those colleges not currently represented on the list.
- The waiting list will be managed from year to year by date of application submission.

Why a NACADA Summer Institute

The Summer Institute experience is based on a week-long program providing you and/or your team the opportunity to develop a customized Action Plan based on needs at your particular institution. This process is facilitated by attendance at Foundation Sessions, a choice of topicals and workshops and working daily with a summer institute faculty member and a small group of participants from similar institutional types. Specific objectives are met by participating in every aspect of the institute, from the opening general session on Sunday afternoon until the last presentaiton is made on Friday at noon. Please plan your transportation accordingly.

Quality Advising for Student Development, Retention and Completion

Research in the area of retention, in nearly all instances, concludes that the single most important contributor to student persistence and completion is the development of strong relationships between students and members of the faculty and staff. Because academic advising is the only structured service on the campus in which all students have the opportunity to develop an on-going, one-to-one relationship with a concerned member of the college community, quality academic advising should be a major strategy in every college's retention and completion planning.

By attending the Institute you will:

- Achieve a better understanding of academic advising terms, methodology, and principles
- Reach the goals and expectations you bring with you to the Institute
- Develop a network of peers globally with whom you can connect with in the future for support and assistance
- Develop a workable action plan that will enhance advising on your campus
- Leave with a positive impression of NACADA and the work that NACADA does for Academic Advising

Who Should Attend
The institute is designed for individuals or teams who have responsibility for academic advising, such as:

- Teams or individuals from an institution desiring to refine or redesign campus advising services (see the link to the right for more details on bringing a team)
- Advising Program Directors
- Academic Advising Campus Task Force Members
- Academic Advisors
- Academic Counselors
- Faculty Advisors
- Campus Administrators including Deans or Vice Presidents with responsibility for advising

At the end of your Work Group sessions you will have:

- Participated in discussion of Institute presentations
- Provided feedback to Work Group Members
- Created an Action Plan for implementation on your campus
- Presented Action Plan to peers for feedback

2018 AAEEBL Annual Meeting

The Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning (AAEEBL), partnering with the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U), invites proposals for sessions at the 2018 Annual Meeting “Building Bridges with ePortfolios” at Capilano University in Vancouver, British Columbia from July 23-26, 2018. Registration opens in January. The deadline for proposals is Monday February 12, 2018 (at midnight PST).

Eportfolios have always been a tool of connection—a digital showcase that spans many divides. In 2018, we look forward to sessions that encourage attendees to explore the ways ePortfolios bridge our learning from one context to another:

-Linking K-12 education to post-secondary education
-Connecting post-secondary education to the workplace
-Uniting faculty instruction with faculty research
-Joining co-curricular activities to curricular activities
-Relating classroom assessment to institutional assessment
-Coupling faculty development with faculty practices
-Spanning across high impact practices

AAEEBL strongly encourages proposals that balance conceptual and theoretical frameworks with concrete, pragmatic examples; that highlight the mechanics and how-to pieces of a practice, strategy, or model; and that showcase mature, evidence-based programs as well as new initiatives. Proposals should address how the work can be adapted to a wide range of institutional types, including community colleges and minority-serving institutions.

The Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI) is a collaborative effort to help advance the institutional effectiveness of California Community Colleges and, in the process, significantly reduce the number of accreditation sanctions and audit issues. Most importantly, IEPI will enhance the system’s ability to effectively serve students. An important focus of the grant is to draw on the exceptional expertise and innovation from within the system in advancing best practices and avoiding potential pitfalls.
