For nearly 40 years, Lilly Conferences have provided opportunities for the presentation of the scholarship of teaching and learning. Conference participants are made up of faculty and administrators at various stages in their academic careers that come from across the United States, representing nearly every discipline found in higher education. The Anaheim conference maintains the same overall theme: “Teaching for Active and Engaged Learning” however tracks and subthemes vary by year. We always offer a variety of sessions so that participants can match their learning preference to the presentations formats: 50-minute sessions, 20-minute discussions, traditional plenary addresses, 30-minute round table discussions, and poster sessions. Conference presentations are selected through a blind peer-review process.

The Mid-Winter Faculty Conference is a two-day event scheduled each January or February at the Cambria Pines Lodge. The program provides community college faculty a variety of workshops focusing on the different issues involved in teaching journalism at the community college level. A featured workshop each year is an annual media law update.
In selected years there is a separate day-long Blue Heron workshop that focuses on teacher training in a single subject or skill set area.

Higher education is undergoing many changes such as student placement and assessment processes, increased student services, and even consideration of a guided pathways framework. Likewise, accreditation requirements and practices are undergoing significant change. Accreditation is no longer an event that occurs once every six years to prove compliance; it is a process that requires annual consideration and broad participation to ensure that the education and services provided to our students are of high quality and value to the community and public at large. Whether your college is gathering evidence, in the process of writing an Institutional Self Evaluation Report, or preparing for a comprehensive site visit, the Academic Senate for California Community College’s Accreditation Institute will provide guidance and support. Accreditation is an opportunity to share everything that our colleges do well and to identify areas where improvement can be made. This year’s institute, while embracing change, is focused on understanding accreditation so that participants are empowered and energized to take ownership of accreditation. New this year, is a pre-session sponsored by the ACCJC. There will be two trainings: one, a new evaluator training for faculty and the other, new Accreditation Liaison Officer Training

What is the Relationship Among Literacy, Metacognition, and Supplemental (SI) Instruction Content Knowledge? And What Can We Do About It?
This highly interactive workshop will engage participants in metacognitive conversations centered on complex disciplinary texts that defeat many students. By discovering and reflecting on their own ways of unlocking graphs, charts, illustrations, and problems, along with much more, participants will experience ways the Reading Apprenticeship approach helps students master core concepts and helps tutors explicitly support student learning.
The Reading Apprenticeship framework draws on the strengths students and faculty bring to build confidence and power to their work with texts, concepts, and each other.

The Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID) is hosting a meeting in Sacramento this spring.
On Friday February 23, 2018 C-ID is holding a Discipline Input Group (DIG), at which faculty will convene to begin a discussion regarding the creation of model curriculum for certificates in their discipline, as well as determine whether C-ID descriptors are appropriate. There is no fee to attend and a light breakfast as well as lunch will be provided.
We need faculty who teach in the following disciplines/programs to attend:
-Emergency Medical Technician
-Interior Design and Merchandising
-International Business Trade
-Small Business and Entrepreneurship
These meetings are "come one, come all", to encourage wide participation and perspectives. Later, faculty will be appointed by their respective state senate to participate on the Faculty Discipline Review Group (FDRG) that will prepare draft documents for statewide vetting.
