Knox Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy, University of Wisconsin-Madison Dr. Alan B. Knox is well-known to many members through conferences, publications, and projects. His career long interest has been lifelong learning of adults, in all its variety, roles, and locations. He has followed this interest as a student, teacher, scholar, and administrator at five universities: Syracuse, Nebraska, Columbia Teachers College, Illinois and Wisconsin. For more than six decades, Dr. Knox has been actively engaged and providing leadership in AAACE, and other associations of practitioners and scholars in the field. His contributions through publications, presentations and international projects have also provided him with opportunities to learn. Alan’s publications related to our conference theme include: Strengthening Adult and Continuing Education (1993), a book based on comparative analysis of adult education programs in more than 30 countries; a book authored in 2002 entitled Evaluation for Continuing Education; a chapter on Professionalization, in the 2010 Handbook, co-authored with Dr. Jean Fleming; and a new book scheduled for release this November, entitled Improving Professional Learning: 12 strategies to enhance performance (Publisher: Stylus). Dr. Alan Knox looks forward to continuing his exploration on ways to help practitioners and scholars.  Of particular interest is helping those in the field to enhance their effectiveness.  He envisions promoting use of the available knowledge base to effectively help adults learn and improve their quality of life, performance and communities.
